Hartmann can flat out shoot
Bishop Moore seems to always have gifted 3-point shooters and 2019 guard Jess Hartmann is no different. The bursty senior had a team-high 17 points and showing a ton of leadership with his vocalness and shot making ability. The Division III Hope College signee had five 3’s in this game with three coming in the opening half as Bishop Moore took a 29-17 lead into the break.
Abreu grinded it out
2019 guard Emil Abreu was quietly sound in this game, filling the void left from Cattoor’s absence. Abreu had 12 points with 10 coming in the final quarter as the Hornets were ahead by just seven with roughly 5:51 left. He was willing to absorb contact and get inside regardless of the defensive looks. Abreu is a reliable threat for his side.
Newton worked down low
A standout football player, 2020 forward Jerzhan “Johnny” Newton was unstoppable at times in this game with 17 points. The thickly built forward isn’t afraid to put his body on the line in the paint as a slasher and rebounder. He has a ton of burst as well. With offers from UF, West Virginia and Indiana and many more as a defensive tackle, Newton is a life saver for the basketball program.
Burkey and LaPrade brought life to Bishop Moore
2019 guard JP LaPrade and 2021 guard Blake Burkey each scored eight points in this game. LaPrade brought energy on the defensive end as a shot blocker and tough nosed player while getting his buckets as an attacker. Burkey is a gifted outside shooter with a quick trigger. Both players contributed plenty in the team’s efforts to trap CCC. 2019 guard Robby Sandargas also had eight points for Bishop Moore.
Galaura is an intriguing prospect
2021 guard Fidel Galaura gave Clearwater Central Catholic much needed life in the second half. He scored all 12 of his points in the final two quarters of play including eight points in the third quarter alone. A smart shooter, Galaura showed mature confidence and aggressiveness in his game.
