In this article:
I took in the day at Lehigh for the inaugural City of Palms Premiere.
Here are the results from the five matchups.
Gray Collegiate 71, Vero Beach 60
Olive Branch 68, Central Florida Christian 53
Charlotte 60, Boyd Anderson 53
Booker 82, Miami Christian 73
Riverview 70, Lehigh 64
Riverview
—It was the Malachi Wideman show in the second half as Riverview overcame a 10 point halftime deficit. The 2020 6’5″ guard finished with 27 points, a City of Palms Premiere record. Wideman was having his way in the paint and took it upon himself to drop 14 second half points. 2019 6’4″ forward Terrell Jackson pitched in with nine points.
Charlotte
—2019 6’3″ guard Ahmad Johnson dropped 26 points to guide Charlotte to a hard fought victory over Boyd Anderson. Johnson was doing everything for the Tarpons, attacking and drawing contact and grabbing boards on both ends. 2020 6’2″ Tyrik Gainer finished with 11 points while 2019 6’4″ guard Makai Reaves and 2021 6’7″ forward Tre Carroll each recorded nine points.
Booker
—What a night it was for 2019 duo Jordan Clark and Johnnie Williams in the win over Miami Christian. 6’3″ guard Clark led his side with 24 points, slashing and serving as a versatile chess piece for Booker. 6’5″ guard Williams was just as good on the night with his ability to create with 23 points.
Olive Branch (Mississippi)
—2019 6’7″ D.J. Jeffries is rather impressive and he dropped 25 points on the day. The senior Memphis signee had about 12 dunks on the day flying in transition which included five alley-oop slams. Fellow big man 2020 6’6″ forward Cameron Matthews made splash plays with 14 points while 2019 5’11” guard C.J. Owens added 10 points.
Gray Collegiate (South Carolina)
—The War Eagles had four players finish in double digits including 2019 6’1″ guard Tommy Bruner (21 points), 2019 5’10” guard Khalil Robinson (15 points), 2019 6’5″ guard Ja’lil Robinson (11 points) and 2020 6’9″ forward Jalen Deloach (10 points). The South Carolina squad has a nice chemistry together.
Miami Christian
—In a back and forth speedy battle with Booker as 2019 6’1″ guard Algenis Quintana finished with a team lead 24 points. Quintana was fighting for opportunities at the free throw line. 2019 6’3″ guard Gonzalo Gonzalvo gave his full effort on the way to a 15 point outing.
Central Florida Christian
—2019 6’0″ guard Bryce Street was shooting at a high clip for Central Florida Christian with 16 points while 2019 6’5″ forward Jordan Preaster (Bethune Cookman signee) had 15 points. Also, 2019 6’6″ forward Anterrius Washington had a healthy dose of action with nine points.
Lehigh
—2020 6’3″ guard Quinton Desamours had 19 points for Lehigh in a true battle with Riverview. He shot often and had some big 3’s late in the game. 2019 6’2″ guard Delshawn Green was the best offensive threat for the Lightning with 16 points while 2020 6’4″ guard Darron Humphrey posted 11 points.
Boyd Anderson
—2020 6’5″ guard/forward Rivaldo Fairweather was putting back tip-ins and rebounds, finishing with 11 points. 2019 6’9″ forward RJ Duhart had some nice stretches in the game with 10 points on the evening. Boyd Anderson has a lot of athleticism and is due for a turnaround.
Vero Beach
—Without 2019 guard Tommie Lewis, Vero Beach put a lot on 2019 6’5″ guard/forward Riley Minix (18 points), 2019 6’2″ guard Javian Cuff (17 points) and 2019 6’1″ guard Marquezz Henry (13 points). The Indians have a nice mix of speed and smarts on their side.
