The solid 6-foot-1, 185-pound junior combo guard prepared himself for this over the off-season. Moore worked hard on his game and he hopes the fruits of his labor come in the form of not only Roughrider wins but some recruiting interest from college programs as well.
On Thursday night, Roosevelt fought hard to earn a 63-55 win over a scrappy squad from Oakland (Calif.). Moore was a big reason why. He struggled with his shot early, but started finding it in the second half and a couple of threes and tough buckets helped give Roosevelt some breathing room as they built and maintained a lead they would not relinquish. Moore finished with a team-high 19 points.
“In the first half, it was shaky as it got in our heads as it wasn’t really going our way,” Moore said. “We had to fight against adversity. But in the second half, we pulled it out got the W.”
While he may be a little streaky, Moore can definitely put the ball in the basket. He is capable of hitting from long range but also using his solid body to attack the basket and finish around the rim. This past off-season, he played on the EYBL circuit with the Rose City Rebels 16U squad in the spring and then focused more on individual work in the following months.
“In the summer, I was just working on my shot and played on a local team to go to Vegas,” Moore said. “I worked on attacking and on my left hand. Last year I really didn’t have a left hand, and now I feel like I can finish with my left hand better.”
It’s a little early so Moore isn’t getting hit hard by any college programs at the moment. But he’s keeping his options open as the season plays out. “Hopefully I can get some (interest) after the season,” Moore said. “Personally I’ll go with whoever wants me.”
A lot of Roughrider wins may very well make an impact on his recruitment. Moore certainly hopes so and he has some high expectations for his team. “I feel like we can make it to state honestly,” Moore said. “We’ve got to keep a straight head, play hard like we always do, and I think we can go very far.”
Moore currently ranks as the #44 player in the PrepHoops Class of 2020 rankings.
