National HoopFest Saturday Standouts (Part 2)
This past weekend DeMatha played host to the National HoopFest which was arguably one of the top events of the high school season. There was talent on the floor all weekend long and this article takes a look at some of the top performers from Saturday.
2019 6’4 Anthony Edwards | Holy Spirit Preparatory School
2020 SG Anthony Edwards with Atlanta Express this summer. Photo by HoopseenAnthony Edwards was on a mission this weekend to let everyone know that he deserves to be in the conversation about who the number one player in the 2019 class is. He recently just reclassified from 2020 to 2019 and he put up big numbers this past weekend at National HoopFest. He is pretty much unstoppable when he is driving towards the basket and is someone that any team can rely on to win a game. In two games this weekend he finished with 41 points one game and 27 in the other. With that being said, he has proven he is the best scorer in all of high school basketball.
2019 6’4 Austin Crowley | Sunrise Christian Academy
Vanderbilt is getting an athletic 6’4 shooting guard that can score the basketball in a variety of ways. When it comes to some of the best shooters I saw this past weekend, Crowley’s name has to be put into that conversation. Bryce Drew has added a sniper that can score the ball in bunches.
2019 6’4 Harlond Beverly | Montverde Academy
After seeing him drop 20 points on 9-9 from the field, I now see why programs are still looking to add this unsigned senior. He was able to use his athleticism and size to get to the basket and allow him to get the shots he wanted to which helped him go perfect from the field. He gets out on the defensive side of the ball and goes after his opposition which allowed him to get 4 steals on Saturday.
2020 6’7 Cade Cunningham | Montverde Academy
Cade had a near triple double Saturday night putting up a total of 8 points, 9 assists and 10 rebounds. His Montverde team found themselves in deep trouble against Paul VI but it was Cade’s play that helped them rally and eventually win the game. He was making tough shots over defenders, setting up the offense well, assisting to others and just letting the game come to home which really calmed down his team and helped them come back from a 10 point deficit at halftime.
2020 6’0 Noah Farrakhan | IMG Academy
A lot of people have been doubting Noah but this weekend he put on a show. Being the lead guard of an extremely talented IMG team, he runs the show for them at the point guard position. He was setting teammates up, playing smart and finished with 15 points.
2019 6’4 Justin Moore | DeMatha
Justin had a very strong weekend for the host school DeMatha as he had 15 points and 6 rebounds against IMG in front of two of his future assistant coaches at Villanova. I really like how Justin can excel getting past his defenders and finishing at the rim. One thing that allows him to finish strong at the rim is because of how strong he is. He is a strong shooting guard that can also get up for rebounds. He is also a guy that you can count on to make some shots from all areas on the floor.
