The matchups feature a few of the state’s big name players, as well as a plethora of sleeper players. Prep Hoops gives you 10 players to watch at Carthage this week.
London Glass (5’10 2021 G, Wilmot)- The younger brother of former Wilmot standout Latrell Glass, London has started his sophomore season showing flashes of the scoring ability that made his brother so dangerous. After a shaky start to the year, London has found his rhythm from distance and is getting more confident in his game as an offensive player. That confidence has London averaging 10.1 ppg on the season, including games of 15 and 14 points. A player who likes to jump passing lanes and get out in transition, London is a budding young talent who will be an exciting player to watch over the next few days.
Isaiah Hoyt (6′ 2021 G, The Prairie School)- One of the key returning pieces from a Prairie squad that lost five starters in the 2018 graduating class, Isaiah has been stepping up as an integral part of the lineup this season. Hoyt is a quick and athletic guard who likes to push the ball in transition and open up easy looks for himself and for his teammates. After playing as a freshman on varsity last season, Isaiah is battle tested at a young age, and is using that experience to lead this inexperienced team to some early success. Hoyt is avearaging 12.9 ppg and 3.6 apg early in the season, proving he can make things happen for himself and for his teammates. Our 27th ranked player in Wisconsin’s loaded 2021 class, Isaiah will look to pick up some wins at Carthage this week.
Antuan Nesbitt (6’3 2021 W, The Prairie School)- Another talented sophomore at Prairie is Isaiah’s teammate Antuan Nesbitt. Standing at 6’3 with long arms, Antuan is a very athletic wing prospect who has been putting up big numbers this season. Though a solid shooter from distance at this point, Antuan has been most effective using his length and athleticism, and getting aggressive driving the ball to the basket. Antuan has great passer vision which makes Prairie an ever-so increasingly dangerous team with the ball in his hands. Nesbitt boasts some of the most impressive statistical averages you’ll find (15.9 ppg, 7.7 rpg, and 4.6 apg), and could be in for some big games coming up.
Jaeden Zackery (6’3 2019 PG, Westosha Central)- Westosha Central made a run to the state tournament last year and are once again state ranked in Division 2 this year, with Jaeden Zackery being an integral part of that success. The 6’3 guard is a powerful and aggressive player who takes the ball to the hoop with strength, and defends with hustle and intensity. Jaeden plays his best when he plays against the best, and he never backs down from a challenge on the court. Averaging 17.7 ppg, 5.5 rpg, and 6.7 apg, Jaeden is a player who gets the job done in all facets of the game, and is someone a coach can rely on to give it his all every single game.
Dylan Anderson (6’3 2019 F, Westosha Central)- A big bodied and strong stretch-4, Dylan Anderson is having a big senior year for the state ranked Falcons. A physical player inside, Dylan does all of the dirty work down low and is a strong rebounder. He also has the ability to step outside and knock down shots from beyond the arc. Dylan is an extremely efficient scorer, evident by his 67% shooting from the field including 58% from three point range. Anderson is a sleeper player who is making his presence felt with a big senior year.
Ezra Stargell (5’10 2021 PG, Kenosha Indian Trail)- Arguably the top scorer in Kenosha as just a sophomore, Ezra Stargell is an electric player who is capable of taking over at times for Indian Trail. Listed at 5’10, Ezra isn’t the biggest player, but his quickness and ball handling allow him to get the shots he wants, and his range extends to well beyond the arc. Ezra combines some flair and playmaking ability, with the sense to calm the game down and run the point with poise when the game calls for it. Averaging 17.8 points a contest, with a season high of 36, Ezra is a big game waiting to happen.
Andrew Alia (6’2 2022 W, Kenosha St. Joseph)- Playing for a St. Joseph’s squad in a rebuilding phase, Andrew Alia provides a glimmer of hope for the future of this program. Already making his impact felt at the high school level, Alia has been impressive averaging 15.2 points per outing as just a freshman. At 6’2 and skilled, Andrew has the ability and versatility to play multiple positions, making him a valuable asset. With games of 25 and 24 points early in the season, Alia’s scoring ability will be needed to give St. Joe’s a chance at winning this week.
Tyrese Hunter (6′ 2021 G, Racine St. Catherine’s)- Likely the top college prospect playing at the classic is Tyrese Hunter. As a freshman at this event last year Tyrese was impressive, and earned the nickname “Mr. Euro-Step”. Tyrese is an explosive athlete with impressive vertical leaping ability who uses that athleticism to attack and finish at the rim. Though often one of the smallest players on the court, Tyrese isn’t afraid to meet players at the rim as a shot blocker and most often comes up on top with some big defensive swats. Averaging 15.3 ppg, 4.3 rpg, and 4.5 apg as just a sophomore, Tyrese is already producing at a high level and possesses an extremely high ceiling in the long run.
Quinn Cafferty (6’5 2019 F, Racine St. Catherine’s)- Quinn Cafferty has been a mainstay in the Angel’s lineup since his freshman season, and has been giving consistent production inside the paint. In the post Quinn has great footwork, which allows him to get high percentage looks no matter who is defending him. He’s a very intelligent player on the court and provides a veteran presence necessary for St. Cat’s to succeed. Averaging 12.7 ppg and 7.8 rpg, Quinn will be a deciding factor in St Catherine’s games at the Go Sports America Classic.
Azarien Stephens (6’2 2019 G, Racine St. Catherine’s)- Azarien Stephens is another player who has been contributing to the Angel’s lineup for a few years now. The two time 2nd Team All Conference member is a threat from well beyond the arc, and has been putting in some consistent scoring performances all season long. He has also developed into more of a well rounded guard with the ability to find open teammates, and is averaging 3.5 assists per contest this season. Azarien will look to spread the floor with his shooting in a couple of tough games this week.
