Prospect Spotlight: Tyler Delevante (2021)
The state of Florida keeps getting talent from Canada to come down and play hoops.
2021 guard Tyler Delevante is a 6’5″, 177-pounder who has transferred from Mississauga Our Lady of Mount Carmel to Victory Rock for his sophomore year.
Delevante says he’s most excited about the challenge ahead at his new school.
“Coming in as a 10th grader and playing a big part on the national team is a blessing but no easy task, I look forward to tackling it full force,” Delevante told Prep Hoops. “I know with how hard I work day in and day out I’m on route to a really good season.”
…The biggest thing that weighed into moving to Victory Rock was when my parents and I started our journey on researching prep schools, our research was done on some good schools but there was something about coach (Loren) Jackson that got me, we spoke and I knew that this was the right programme for me. I know this was the right choice because coach Jackson pushes me every day, he also keeps me at a high standard of excellence and attention to detail.”
As a freshman, Delevante averaged 35.0 PPG and 6.0 APG at Our Lady of Mount Carmel
“My freshman season went as planned. One of my favorite parts about last year was breaking the ROPSSA (Region of Peel Secondary Schools) scoring record with 62 points in one game and getting the win as well. All in all my freshman season was just as I wanted it to be.”
This summer, he played with the 15U Nike UPlay Canada group.
“We bonded really well and I’ve been with them for a year now,” Delevante said. “This past season, my role was to score the ball and I think I did a good job doing that.”
No offers or interest have come yet for the sophomore.
Delevante pointed to his ability to get to the rim with simple dribble moves and drawing the defense as his biggest strengths.
“I get to the hole really well and can either finish with different moves, drop it off to a big or kick the ball out to a shooter,” he said. “Something I want to improve is my shooting. I want to make my jumper very consist so I can knock shots down with ease.”
A very well put together kid, Delevante has the length and IQ that any college program would covet of a point guard. He has a chance to carve out a big scoring role for Victory Rock this season. Delevante is a fun prospect to watch.
