Prospect Spotlight: Solomon Campbell (2019 Parkrose HS)
There aren’t a lot of big guys in the state but one to definitely keep an eye out for this season is Solomon Campbell. The lanky 6-foot-9, 170-pound post from Parkrose High School is still in the development stages of his game but he’s making progress. Campbell got a chance to run with Rose City Basketball on the AAU circuit this summer and it’s helped him prepare for what he hopes is a big senior year.
“It was a nice experience,” Campbell said of the summer. “It was my first time back being on the circuit in a while and I learned a lot of things and talked to some coaches about how to work on my game. I learned how to bigger in the post and stronger with the ball. I also worked on my ball-handling outside.”
We recently caught Campbell at an open gym at Parkrose and there’s potential. Despite the fact he recently had knee surgery, he was running the floor pretty well, using his height and length to affect shots at the rim, and he effortly threw down dunks on offensive putbacks. Campbell has good bloodlines as he’s the son of former Oregon State center Alonzo Campbell and brother of current Alcorn State 7-footer Alonzo Campbell Jr.
Some college programs have taken some early interest in Campbell including Multnomah, Lower Columbia, and Paris Junior College in Texas (where his brother played last season). Campbell is expecting to play his senior season out before decidig anything. “I’m keeping my options open,” Campbell said. “I’m looking for something that’s the best fit for me. I’ve been talking to my brother about the recruitment part of it, and he’s telling me what to look forward to with taking visits.”
Parkrose has a lot of raw talent on this year’s team and Campbell is hopeful that it can all come together for the Broncos. “I’m expecting something big,” Campbell said. “I want to win state and get a ring for my last year.”
Campbell currently ranks as the #40 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2019 rankings.
