Prospect Spotlight: Jabral Ray (2022)
2022 guard Jabral Ray made his presence felt a season ago for SLAM Miami.
The 6’0″ athlete is a skinny but speedy guard at 130 lbs.
He averaged 25.0 PPG with JV while earning a 3.5 GPA as an 8th grader.
“Coach moved me up to varsity in January,” Ray told Prep Hoops. “I was rewarded with solid playing time throughout the playoffs on our run to make it to state.”
SLAM went 29-3 losing in the Class 4A state semifinals to eventual champion Westminster.
“My confidence rarely waivers because I am a gym rat and I am always trying to prepare myself for the next level,” he said. “I can say my biggest improvement has been my jump shot.”
Ray says he’s excited about spending a full season on varsity while competing for a starting spot.
This summer, he played for South Florida Elite 16U. He says he had an excellent run scoring well into the double digits. A fractured foot cut his travel season short.
No offers have come yet for the freshman, but he’s already drawn interest from FIU, UNF, Ave Maria, Barry and Western Nebraska.
In terms of his biggest strengths, Ray pointed to his ballhandling and ability to attack the rim.
“I want to improve on every aspect of my game and be the best basketball player that I can be,” he said.
For a SLAM Miami team that is built for another deep run in Class 4A, Ray will be a welcomed piece to the puzzle. His keen ability to spread the ball around and blow past his defenders with his pure speed will be a nice asset for his team.
