Recruiting Report: Zach Lea (2020)
2020 wing Zach Lea plays the roles that teams need. Let’s say that again, Zach plays the roles that winning teams need. And colleges are noticing.
Lea is a 6-foot-3 wing from Chaska who was the Hawks fourth leading scorer last year (on a Class AAAA top ten team) and one of three key players coming back for Chaska that has the team thinking big things this winter (Cole Nicholson and Conner Krenos are the other two).
Zach had a great season for the Minnesota Fury Zurn team this summer that lead to a lot of college interest.
“I’ve been hearing from North Dakota State, Dartmouth, and several NSIC schools as well,” Lea said. “I also visited NDSU over the weekend and it was a great experience.
“We were able to watch the practice on Friday, which was really cool to see. After, I got a chance to meet the coaching staff and some of the guys. We also got a tour of campus, and went to the football game in the afternoon on Saturday.
“Coach (Jayden) Olson was the main one showing me around, but also had the chance to talk with Coach Dave Richman and Coach Veasley a lot too. He did a great job of showing and telling me what the program is all about. Coach Richman did the same. It was great to learn how things are done up at NDSU.
“There wasn’t any talk of an offer from NDSU yet, but I think the Bison staff plans on coming to some high school games this winter to continue watching me play.
“My family loved the NDSU visit as we all fell in love with the coaching staff and the location of the school is great for us. A potential Bison offer would be incredible as receiving an offer from such a quality program would be amazing.”
