Recruiting Update: Aaron Deloney (2019 Grant HS/Rose City Rebels 17U)
July was a bit of a grueling month for Aaron Deloney. The quick 6-foot point guard from Grant High School finished out his last tour of AAU ball with the Rose City Rebels and now that he’s done, he’s taking a little time off before sorting through his college recruitment.
This past month, the Rebels played in tournaments in Georgia, Salem, and Las Vegas and things came to an end at the Las Vegas Classic with a loss to rivals Seattle Rotary. “It wasn’t the best definitely but it was okay,” Deloney said of July. “We got to play the top talent around and it was fun to compete, but it wasn’t the best that we could have done as a team and individually.”
Individually, it was a bit up and down for Deloney. While had some productive games, in particular it seemed as if his outside shot left him as the threes were have come accustomed to seeing drop in often bounced off the rim. “I think I was just drained a lot from playing so much that it took a toll on me,” Deloney said. “But it was fun.”
Some of Deloney’s shot came back on Friday at Portland State Elite Camp and no doubt it was a good feeling for the rising senior. After a few days, he will sit down with his family to focus on his recruitment. “I’m just resting up and then I’ll get back to the college stuff and what I’m going to do for next year and the future,” Deloney said. “Over the next month or so I’ll set things up and see all the schools. I’ll probably wait (to decide) until when signing comes.”
Deloney’s current offer list includes Portland State, Eastern Washington, Cal Baptist, Houston Baptist, and Howard. While Deloney declined to name any leaders at this time, there’s no doubt that Portland State is in the mix. Head coach Barret Peery was in attendance at practically every game of his this summer and at camp, he and his staff spent time with Deloney as well. So while he’s not completely sure where he’ll visit, it appears the Vikings are right there.
“I like where I’m at right now,” Deloney said. “‘ll tell you that.”
Deloney currently ranks as the #2 player in PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2019 rankings.
