Prospect Spotlight: Gabriel Ferguson (2021)
2021 forward Gabriel Ferguson has made the move to Lake Highland Prep.
The 6’7″, 185-pounder spent his freshman season at Edgewater, where he started a handful of games and made an impact as an interior presence.
“As the only freshman on the varsity team, I had the tough challenge of guarding Robert Allen in practice every day but it made me a stronger defender,” Ferguson told Prep Hoops. “Playing with so many athletic teammates who can get up and down the court so quickly made me a lot faster and increased my athleticism. The biggest thing that I learned was how to score when I had so many other
talented teammates on the other court.”
Alongside Allen, Ferguson scored 11 points in a 63-60 loss to Georgia Pebblebrook during the inaugural Prep Hoops Sun Bash.
No offers or interest have come yet for the sophomore. Ferguson played for Team Nightrydas on the EYBL Circuit and called it a great experience.
He pointed to his vertical, footwork, speed, shot selection and his overall jumper have improved this summer.
In terms of his biggest strengths, Ferguson pointed to his ability to score in multiple ways, play both ends of the floor, rebound and block shots. He wants to improve on being less unselfish and score when he has an open look.
Ferguson joins a Lake Highland Prep program that went 22-7 a year ago, losing in the Class 5A region semifinals to Trinity Catholic. With seven seniors graduating, the chance for Ferguson to carve out his name there is certainly there. He’s long and a natural athlete now is the time for him to take advantage.
