Prospect Introduction: Godwin Illoukma (2020)
Godwin Illoukma arrived in Florida on Friday afternoon.
The 6’4″, 190-pounder came down from Canada to play at Superior Collegiate. He says it was a no-brainer decision simply because of the talent that comes out of the state of Florida.
Previously at Jean Vanier Catholic Secondary School in Scarborough, Ontario, Illoukma called his sophomore campaign a season of growth.
“I was able to improve on my leadership skills which brought my confidence up on the field,” Illoukma told Prep Hoops. “My end of game average has been brought to an outstanding 27 points a game with 10 rebounds.”
The 2020 prospect has no offers yet but he’s received a plethora of interest from the likes of UConn, Denver, FSU, Arizona State, Arkansas Little Rock, Northern Arizona, Buffalo, Kansas State, Drake, Western Michigan and Central Connecticut State.
Illoukma spent the summer rehabbing from an injury. He pointed to his biggest strengths as his athleticism, defense, scoring and aptitude to get to the rim. He has a 43″ vertical. Illoukma says he wants to improve on his all-around playmaking ability.
He called the move to Florida a huge step.
“Moving to Florida is a huge step in my career because Superior Collegiate is allowing me to focus on my studies and craft with limited to no distraction,” he said.
Born in Chicago, Illoukma started his life in Toronto at the age of 4.
“My mom brought me and my sisters to Toronto and it played a large role in my basketball career,” Illoukma said. “My area made me tougher because of the fact that not many people in my area play basketball it’s mostly a hockey area so it just gave me that much more pride in my craft.”
He comes in at No. 54 out of 248 in the 2020 Florida rankings which were released this week.
Illoukma will be an instant difference maker with his size, jumping ability and a keen sense of scoring in different areas of the floor. In the SIAA, Superior Collegiate should be happy with what it is building. Illoukma is yet another athletic piece to keep an eye on.
