Prospect Profile: Zach Brown (2019 Springfield HS/Team Fly Williams)
Zach Brown is having fun on the AAU circuit. The 6-foot-6, 195-pound forward from Springfield joined up with Team Fly after the high school season ended and he’s enjoyed traveling, playing with, and getting to know a new set of teammates while working on his game.
“I really like this program and I’m having a lot of fun playing with these guys and we’re winning a lot of games,” Brown said. “My role is to spread the ball out and find the shooters and get a lot of rebounds. I’ve been trying to shoot the three better because I know the way the game is evolving everybody on the floor needs to be able to shoot the three and have range. And I’m also working on my ball-handling skills.”
Brown did a little bit of everything with Team Fly at The Hoop Memorial Day Classic. His length and athleticism allow him to guard multiple positions on the court and he has the knack of blocking shots without fouling. Offensively he’s still developing his perimeter game but he’s the type of player who doesn’t necessarily need to score to have an impact on the game.
Colleges are intrigued with Brown’s potential. He noted that he’s heard from Portland, Concordia, and Western Oregon, as well as many of the schools in the NWAC. He’s keeping all of his options open.
“I’m not really sure, I just want somewhere to play basketball to be honest,” Brown said. “D-I would be nice and everything but I’d rather start somewhere smaller and then work my way up. I rather not just jump right into a D-I school. I’d rather get the college level going and get my skills up higher to that level to something like a D-I.”
Brown indicated that he’d like to stay fairly close to home, at least on the West Coast. With his game he’s looking to keep things going the summer. “Just keep getting better and stronger,” Brown said. “I just want to keep playing basketball.”
Brown current ranks as the #13 ranked player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2019 rankings.
