Prospect Profile: Will Reese (2019 Sunset HS/Rose City Basketball)
A number of high academic performers attended the Oregon High Academic Exposure Camp prior to playing at The Hoop Memorial Day Classic, and Will Reese was one of those high achievers. The lanky 6-foot-6, 185-pound forward from Sunset High School has been playing on the AAU circuit with the Rose City Basketball program and he’s been enjoying his time with them.
“I’m playing the four and the five and we just added another big guy to the team so playing two bigs has been beneficial,” Reese said. “I’ve been working on outside shots, off the dribble, and quickness.”
At the Exposure Camp, Reese showed off a solid mid-range jumper and ran the floor well. Normally locked down in the post at Sunset, it’s clear he’s trying to get more comfortable with playing more outside as that’s what his college future holds. So far he’s gotten some exploratory Division III interest.
“I’ve gotten a little interest from George Fox and Pacific Lutheran in Washington,” Reese said. “They’ve been sending information and said that they’ve noticed my game.”
Reese notes that he’s wide open with his college recruitment at this time and when it comes down to it, it will be about finding the right fit. “I’m looking for a good team and good academics at a good school, where the coaching is pretty good,” Reese said. “I want someone that will make me better.”
Until then, the focus will be on being with Sunset in June and then back with Rose City Basketball in July. “The rest of the summer I want to stay in the gym a lot and keep hitting threes,” Reese said. “I’ve been consistent with it so far but I want to make sure it comes in the season so we can win league.”
Reese currently ranks as the #33 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2019 rankings.
