Prospect Spotlight: Jalen Brown (2019)
Over in Dover, Fla., junior guard Jalen Brown is working hard each night to push the tempo for Strawberry Crest.
The 5’9″, 175-pounder is averaging 9.9 PPG. He has scored a season-high 19 points twice, against Tampa Bay Tech and Bloomingdale.
Brown has been a starter since his freshman season. He says he had to learn how to control his team and to get everyone involved the most a year ago.
“This year I say I have improved my consistency the most as a point guard coming out leading my team controlling my team,” Brown told Prep Hoops Florida. “I also can improve on finding my teammates quicker and faster and improving on the defensive side. This year my role is to run the team to make sure everyone is where they are supposed to be but this year has been hard for us in closing out games. We have lost games we should have won but by district time we should be ready.”
Starting his basketball life at age 10, Brown pointed to his ability to attack, penetrate and get to the line as his biggest strengths. He wants to continue to improve his defense.
He’s been with Team Tampa the past two years. Brown says this past summer was productive as he grew as a leader on and off the floor.
No offers or interest have come yet for the 2019 guard, but Brown is a really mature offensive threat. He has bright moments in games and he should be able to finish out the season strong with a big summer ahead.
