2018 St. Pete Tai Strickland talks recruitment, playing with Serrel Smith and more
Tai Strickland has been a huge addition for St. Pete this season.
The 2018 guard says he feels like his confidence has grown this season as well as his scoring and athleticism.
Strickland says he expects to get to states and win.
Currently, the 6’2″, 180-pounder holds offers from Tennessee Tech and Boston College. He said interest has also come from Virginia, Baylor, Louisiana Tech, South Carolina and Coastal Carolina.
Strickland pointed to his defense, ability to get to the rim and make plays for his teammates as his biggest strengths. He also called his mid-range jumper and free throw shooting as strengths. He wants to become a more consistent outside shooter.
The last two seasons Strickland played alongside Kentucky freshman Kevin Knox at Tampa Catholic and now he’s playing next to senior Ole Miss commit Serrel Smith. He had nothing but nice things to say about Smith.
“It’s been great he’s one of the best scorers I’ve played with and he’s kind of like me where his recruitment came a little later and is definitely underrated,” Strickland said. “It has helped to take a load off and to know that whenever I kick it out to him he’s going to make a play and help the team.”
It has been a steady season for Strickland who has fed well off of Smith dating back to fall league. Strickland’s focus and decision making are at an all-time high. He is making the most of his opportunities and will have a chance to do some big things at the next level.
