2018 Killian F Elton Walker talks growth, recruitment and more
Killian’s season ended on Monday night in the Class 9A-District 16 semifinal.
That means Elton Walker’s stellar Killian career is over. He has drawn interest from some Division II, Division III and JUCO programs but no offers have come yet.
The 6’5″, 195-pound forward averaged 17.8 PPG and 9.4 RPG this season as the key cog for the Cougars.
Against Cornerstone Christian on Dec. 30, he cruised to a double double with 27 points and 17 boards.
He says his junior campaign was filled with ups and downs but his group was able to make it to regionals before losing to South Miami. Walker learned that he’s capable of doing things as a threat on the wing, by scoring and finding teammates to get easy buckets.
In terms of what he learned the most from this season, Walker pointed to his shooting and his ability to take players off the dribble.
This summer, Walker suited up for the Elite Ballers. It was his first AAU season in which he called a success. The team had players from area teams Killian, Coral Reef, Norland, Miramar and Carol City.
Walker listed his biggest strengths as beating people off the dribble, spot up shooting, court vision, transition offense and defense and ball handling.
He wants to continue to improve his shot off the dribble.
Highly underrated and under-recruited, Walker has ideal size, speed and smarts to play somewhere at the next level. Whether that comes at Division III or JUCO it remains to be seen. He’s appreciated in the Miami high school scene, but this kid deserves a chance. He always plays hard.
