Meet Nor-Cal’s Upcoming Star
December 9th, 2017 I had the opportunity to be one of the trainers for the “Elite Basketball Circuit” Camp in Sacramento. Coming into the camp I knew of a few good middle school basketball players in the Sacramento area, due to me coaching and seeing talent through AAU. One player that I didn’t know would be at the camp was 6th grader Ben Roseborough. I had seen Roseborough on social media before, training with Prolific Prep trainer Ryan Sypkens, and “Touch Shooting”. From the videos I had seen of the kid, I can tell he had a lot of potential but videos and seeing something in-person can be two different things. After seeing Roseborough in-person at the camp, I was convinced that this kid could be something special.
Roseborough is a 6th grader who handles the ball really well, can shoot from the outside, and has a great feel for the game at an early age. It can always be dangerous to rate kids so young because of the pressure the kid may face at an early age, but any coach can see the potential in his game. Roseborough currently plays for the Sacramento Soldiers, where he recently led his 12 and under team to a gold division championship at the Grassroots 365 tournament in Southern California. He was named the most outstanding player for the 12 and under division.
Roseborough won’t be in high school for another 2 and a half years, but he will be something to look out for when that time comes. He is still a young kid, still has a lot to learn and, still has time to enjoy his actual childhood, but Roseborough skill set is hard to ignore. He will create excitement for the future in Northern California over the next few years.
