Recruiting Report: Nate Beymer (2019)
2019 Auburndale forward Nate Beymer is one heck of an athlete.
The 6’6″, 225-pounder finished second on the basketball team in points and first in rebounds last season. This fall, he was the top player in terms of receptions and receiving yards for the football team.
His older brother Drew, a current offensive tackle for UT Martin was someone he played with last season for basketball. Nate called it special to be able to have his brother on his team.
“This year our goal is to win a lot of games,” Beymer told Prep Hoops Florida. “The first goal is to win the district championship. Then we want to go deep into the playoffs. We need to keep improving as a team.”
No travel basketball for Beymer this summer, instead he tacked on 25 lbs. and went out for the football team in the spring to play tight end.
He hasn’t earned an offer for either sport but says he’s drawn interest from North Florida for basketball and a few Division I schools for football.
“I really want to play football in college but I am definitely open to playing basketball in college,” Beymer said. “I am going to continue to work hard and see what happens.”
Starting his basketball career in middle school, Beymer was previously a baseball player. He suited up for travel ball until 8th grade.
He says gaining strength has improved his ability to rebound and play in the post. Beymer pointed to his mid-range jumper and 3-point shot as his biggest strengths.
“But if I can take the ball to the basket and score from the paint at will why shoot the ball? I hate losing and want my team to win.”
He wants to continue to improve his dribbling.
Beymer led all scorers with 34 points last Tuesday in a 79-70 victory over Lakeland. He was dominant inside and stretched the floor with his jumpers. Beymer has a bright future in either football or basketball. His skills on the court are undeniable as long as he continues to attack.
