Recent Standouts: Miami
Tony Sanders, Gulliver Prep
While much of the national attention has been heaped on his highly decorated 6-foot point guard Jamal Mashburn Jr., Gulliver Prep’s Tony Sanders is etching a name for himself as an enticing emerging prospect.
The 6-foot-5 sophomore has a consistent stroke and the bouncy athleticism that makes him a figurehead of Gulliver’s souped up attack.
All of this was on full display at the City of Palms Classic, when the under noticed supplementary piece showcased poised and an innate feel for the game. Sanders also scored 17 points during Gulliver’s 77-70 win over Lehigh.
If he develops a sturdy build and adds bulk to his spindly 165-pound frame, expect mid to high majors to rapidly arrive at his doorstep.
Mikal Starks, Palmetto Miami
Since the opening game of the 2017-18 campaign, it’s been evident that Starks would take on some ownership of this Palmetto team as a prolific scorer. During the recent Kentucky trip, Starks not only scored at a high pace but applied harassing defense on plenty of higher profile recruits.
He scored 20 points and pulled down six boards during a wild 71-69 loss to West Lynn.
Lee Flenor, South Miami
During South Miami’s recent appearance in the Carolina Forrest Tournament , Flenor erupted during an opportune time against a reputable opponent.
Crashing the boards with sustained relentlessness, outmuscling bigs in the post and supplying pivotal hustle points, Flenor turned in a 17-point, 13-rebound performance.
Turo Dean, South Miami
Seizing the reins of a revitalized and quick-paced offense, Dean continues to be the picture of stability as South Miami’s game manager.
The heady, diminutive Dean recently pieced together a 15-point, 11-assist performance en route to a 58-54 win over Lakeview. Dean has had multiple double digit assist performances this season.
Antwan Macon, Miami Beach Senior High
The 5-foot-11 guard has transformed his game from being a spot up shooter and scorer to a facilitating point guard.
Macon is currently among the area’s assist leaders at 5.3 per game.
