Recruiting Report: Walter Clayton Jr. (2021)
2021 Lake Wales athlete Walter Clayton Jr. is in the middle of the football season, but he’s very focused on his freshman basketball season ahead.
The 6’2″, 170-pounder plays both quarterback and free safety for the Highlanders. He says quarterback helps him make tough passes in basketball and playing safety helps him with contact around the basket.
Last season, he played up a grade and that helped him learn how to control the speed of the game and be a leader.
“My role will be the point guard and I’m excited because everyone says its a different feel such as the speed and atmosphere of the game,” Clayton Jr. told Prep Hoops Florida.
He finished up the summer playing for Team Knight after starting with E1T1. He called it a great experience to be able to go out of state and see more competition and he says it made him work that much harder.
Starting his basketball life at age 5, he called his ability to see things before they happen, facilitate the ball and score when needed as his biggest strengths. He wants to improve his overall defense.
We will see Clayton Jr. and his team on Saturday, Jan. 6 in the Prep Hoops Sun Bash at Carrollwood Day School. They’ll matchup with South Miami.
No offers have come yet for the freshman, but he’s drawn interest from UNF.
Remember the name Walter Clayton Jr. I’ve been hearing about him all summer from players and coaches. We are excited to have his Lake Wales group in the Sun Bash. Expect a breakout season from the 2021 point guard.
