Recruiting Report: Tyreek Montgomery (2018)
2018 Admiral Farragut guard Tyreek Montgomery is coming off a nice junior season.
The 6’1″, 165-pounder called it his best season in his opinion. He transferred to Admiral Farragut from Neptune High (New Jersey) last year.
“Coming from a whole a different state to come play basketball was going to be tough since I didn’t know any of the players,” Montgomery told Prep Hoops Florida. “Coming off the bench and playing starter minutes helped us out a lot because I brought our energy to a whole another level to pull out most games. My coach always told me and my team to trust the process and that’s what I did.”
Montgomery says he learned that the hard summer and in-season workouts were done to benefit him and his team in the long run. He pointed to his jump shot and defense as two attributes that have improved since he’s been in Florida.
“Next year I am going to step up in the big spot and be the leader for my team and make sure we stay on track to get to where we need to be and that’s a state championship,” he said.
Montgomery ran with the Liberty Dream this summer. He called the AAU season really solid, playing in live periods out there in front of college coaches gave him a chance to showcase what he can do.
Basketball first started for him at age 5 and he says he’s loved it ever since.
In terms of his biggest strengths, Montgomery called that his IQ, range and defense. He aims to improve his ball-handling skills so he can be more of a point guard than shooting guard.
No offers have come yet for the senior, but he’s generated interest from Albright, Catawba, Wesley, Eckerd and Florida Southern. Montgomery performed well last month in the fall league. He looks like he has been apart of the Admiral Farragut program for quite some time despite making his debut there in 2016. Expect good things from the versatile guard.
