Recruiting Report: Michael Dishmon (2018)
2018 guard Michael Dishmon is a pure leader.
The 6’2″, 185-pounder led St. Joseph in scoring, 3-pointers made and 3-point percentage. Dishmon earned First-Team All-Conference, All-District and All-County honors.
“I learned throughout the season that the culture around the program is what matters most,” Dishmon told Prep Hoops Florida. “My ball handling and passing skills grew the most for me last season while being able to play alongside my brother, Scottie Dishmon, a junior point guard.”
He says his role as a 4-year varsity player is to have an impact as a role model both on and off the court.
It was tough sledding for the Flashes in Class 4A-District 2 as they finished 8-17 overall a year ago. Dishmon has high hopes for the new season.
“We can do well this year as a team if we make sure to defend strongly and execute well on both sides of the ball,” he said. “If we do that, it will give us the opportunity to compete in any given game.”
St. Joseph hired Marcus Perez as its new head coach this year. He is a former Division-I assistant under former Missouri head coach and current Utah Jazz head coach Quinn Snyder.
Dishmon spent the summer honing in on his skill work and weight training. He looked to gain chemistry this summer under Perez’s guidance.
Basketball started at age 5 for Dishmon and he points to his 3-point shooting (anywhere from 22-25 feet), basketball IQ and ability to create shots for him and his teammates as his biggest strengths.
He has lofty goals for the season which include winning the district and making a state playoff push. The Flashes have to deal with both Bishop Snyder and Providence, two impressive programs.
No offers have come yet for the senior captain, but Dishmon has generated interest from Delaware and Lafayette. Look for him to have an impactful final high school season. He’s a crafty guard and a really impressive shooter.
