Recruiting Report: Jake Estep(2018)
Jake Estep is a 2018 6’5 outside sharp shooter from Beaverton, Oregon. Estep played two of his high school years at Tigard high school before coming to Beaverton high school, where he made first team all metro. Estep’s freshman year he was diagnosed with Osteochondritis and needed knee surgery. He traveled to Arizona to get one of his many surgeries to be able to play again. After his surgeries he worked harder than ever in the off season to be able to play his sophomore year.
Estep was a major key in advancing the Beaverton men’s basketball team to the Chiles Center, Estep’s junior year placing 5th in state. While at the Chiles Center Estep was awarded first team all tournament, which was only one of his many accomplishments his junior season. During the 2017 LSI Estep played a key roll in the win over Westview high school with game winning free throws.
Junior year he averaged 21.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. While in playoffs he averaged 20.6 per game. Estep scored a personal high of 26 points against West Linn and Southridge. Sophomore year Estep was awarded honorable mention in the Three Rivers League. Junior year Estep was awarded 1st team all metro, 1st team all tournament, as well as 2nd team all state.
Estep played AAU in the spring with Portland Basketball Club. Estep trained on his own during the summer months. He trained numerous times a day, visited a nutritionist weekly, as well as holding an eight hour job during the week days.
Estep will be continuing his career at Western Oregon University. He chose WOU because to him that was the perfect fit. The coaching staff would help him improve to the best of his ability. The campus is beautiful and felt like a place he could call home the next four years. Estep plans to continue after his college career as well.
Jake lives by “When you improve a little each day, eventually big things occur. When you improve conditioning a little each day, eventually you have a big improvement in conditioning. Not tomorrow, not the next day, but eventually a big gain is made. Don’t look for the big, quick improvement. Seek the small improvement one day at a time.
