Recruiting Report: Cade Roth (2018)
Silverton’s Cade Roth, a 6’5 guard, comes into this upcoming season as the face of this very talented Foxes team. Roth has the ability to shoot from anywhere on the court, unafraid to pull the trigger at any given point or time. A gifted athlete with an impressive vertical and long wingspan, Cade uses this to get his shot off over any defender. The Foxes look forward to build on his last year’s season, where he was thrust into the role of primary scorer, a role in which he thrived leading the team in scoring. Under new head coach Jamie McCarty, Roth and the rest of Silverton’s talented crew look to make a big run throughout this upcoming winter.
When asked about his AAU experience, Roth described it as “one of the most incredible basketball experiences ever”. Roth’s coach, Jeremy Nesbitt is credited for helping him develop as a player and learn a different type of offense than they ran at Silverton. Coach Nesbitt ran a very organized team, and they demonstrated it on the court shying away from Iso ball and focusing on getting the most open player the best shot. Not only was the coach impactful though, but his teammates pushed him to reach his potential while having a friendly relationship along the ride.
Cade’s work ethic has been prevalent throughout his 4 year high school career. Gifted with length but a slender frame, Roth has been able to put on more muscle and weight going into his senior year. He credits his trainer, C-Lo, for the workouts. These have not only allowed him to beef up, but increase his shot and overall conditioning. This has in turn allowed him to become a stronger finisher, able to take contact and hang in the air for a longer period of time. An already talented shooter from outside, he also continued to hone his craft, working on his midrange game along with pulling up in the face of a defender.
Teammate Eric Russell says, “Cade is the most polite hard worker I know, and has become an amazing ball player at that. The best part is, he still has the potential to go above all the rest.” Last year Roth was awarded first team Mid Willamette selection and team MVP, but we look forward to what he can do in his final season. A team oriented player, the individual accolades don’t matter to him as much as he focuses on bringing home another state title in his final season as a Fox. Roth’s college plans are the last thing on his mind as he focuses on getting ready to start the year. “I’m still feeling out my options, I’m undecided where I’ll go. I’m just more focused on what’s happening right now before I get into the future.” Roth is getting looks at the D2 level.
