Recruiting Report: Brendan Riggs (2019)
2019 Canterbury guard Brendan Riggs enters his junior season excited to showcase his talents for his new team.
The 6’1″, 170-pounder is fresh off his varsity year as a starter and captain at St. Pete Catholic. Prior to that, he split time between JV and varsity as a freshman. He says he’s ready to take his game to the next level with his new team.
“My role for next season at Canterbury is to be a shooter and a facilitator,” Riggs told Prep Hoops Florida.
He says he learned how to be a true leader, when to make the right play and felt that his basketball IQ grew as a sophomore.
Riggs spent his first summer with Team 727 this summer. He called the experience great as he was able to play in some big tournaments in front of college coaches like the Peach Invitational in Georgia.
“This fall my goal is to become an even better shooter and a better shooter off the dribble and to get my defense better,” he said.
He started playing basketball at age 9. Riggs pointed to his shooting ability, basketball smarts and versatility as a guard as his biggest strengths.
No offers yet for Riggs, but he’s drawn interest from a few Division-III programs including Huntingdon College in Alabama. St. Petersburg Canterbury is turning into a reliable group led by 2020 guard Rivers Lenholt. I think Riggs will fit in nicely with what the Crusaders do.
