Prospect Spotlight: Sam Battle (2019)
Port Charlotte Community Christian joined Class 3A-District 5 this year.
2019 forward Sam Battle came over from Port Charlotte to join head coach Kurt Taylor and the Mustangs.
At 6’1″, 170 lbs., Battle didn’t start playing basketball until age 12, really focusing on it a year later as an 8th grader.
The junior forward says he learned how to become a true leader and scorer last season.
“I’m new to Community Christian but my role is going to be trying to help this team to win district’s because last year they fell short,” Battle told Prep Hoops Florida.
Taylor called Battle the Mustangs go-to player.
“He has become a very efficient shooter around the perimeter this summer to complete his overall finishing ability,” Taylor said. “I expect him to average around 18-20 PPG. Great size, great leader.”
Battle is one of three team captains for the Mustangs.
He played this summer for the Storm. He said it went well despite not playing in many tournaments.
Battle says he’s working on becoming more of a score.
“I’m a good playmaker so I’m trying to add to it,” he said.
Battle will be the top communicator for Community Christian leading the offense as a slasher and claiming his presence on defense. Look for him to excel at his new stomping grounds. This a young group that has low expectations, but should surprise some down in Port Charlotte.
