Eastside Tip-Off Classic: Top Scorers
Earlier this week, the Gainesville-Eastside Rams hosted their annual pre-Thanksgiving Tip-Off Classic. Six teams came to through to make an early statement on which teams, and individual players, have improved over the summer. Take a look at the top scorers from the two-day event.
EJ Decoursey – Hawthorne High School: Decoursey was lights out on day one of the tourney and definitely established himself as a go-to scorer for the Hornets when they need a bucket. Decoursey can hit it from deep, being that he notched four triples in the day one matchup. He can also put it on the floor and get to the rack with a power dribble. Look out for him as the season starts to unfold.
Saveon Webster – Santa Fe High School: One of the things he did better than everyone else included his shot-fake, into the dribble-drive through the paint. Saveon can sell that fake better than most, and definitely used it to his advantage. If a defender is met at the rim, Sav has the ability to twist his body, avoid the contact, and get the ball off with an up-and-under. He’s appearing as one of the few Raiders that can create his own shot.
Malik Robertson – Eastside High School: The senior post-man has already shown signs of great improvement after just two preseason games. The confidence is there. When in the mid-range area, he’s comfortable putting it on the floor and barreling to the cup. Robertson can even hit the 13-15 mid-range jumper if left some space. He had 16 points on day one. It won’t be the last time he puts up double-digits.
Cameron Oliver – Williston High School: Cam is the shortest on his squad, standing at 5’8”. None of that mattered when it came to putting points on the board. Oliver was one of the quickest guards in the Classic, period. He used that speed to pierce the paint, and loft up floaters that dropped with ease. He’s also a great at hitting the midrange jumper, as well. I anticipate seeing a lot of offense come through him.
Anthony Wright – Eastside High School: The junior wing had a tough opener on day one, but redeemed himself on day two against Crescent City hitting three triples in the first quarter. He finished with 15 points. From top to bottom, he was a completely different player. On every drive, he looked to for the open man to kick it out. But if it wasn’t there, he drove it strong to the cup with his right hand. Looking forward to a solid year from him.
