2019 CFCA F Jordan Preaster talks transfer, recruiting and more
At 6’5″, 189 lbs., 2019 forward Jordan Preaster is a slasher with upside.
The junior has no offers yet, but he’s drawn interest from several college programs including Stetson, Mercer, Eastern Washington, Robert Morris, Navy, Army and Troy.
Preaster transferred from Evans to Central Florida Christian this summer. He did it because he says he feels it provides him with more opportunities to better his future and focus with fewer distractions.
In terms of what he learned during his sophomore season, Preaster said that was how hard he has to work and how much time he has to put in to play Division-I ball.
For this upcoming season at CFCA for head coach Andrew Gustafson, he aims to have a bigger role than he did previously at Evans.
“I have to play at a really high level every game to win, my role is to be a high level leader, scorer and defender,” Preaster told Prep Hoops Florida. “Dante [Treacy] and I have the highest roles on the team.”
Preaster says he’s watched his mid-range jumper, athleticism, finish at the basket and shooting ability.
He spent this summer with Team M.O.A.M, a program he started playing for as a freshman.
“My experience with Team M.O.A.M. has really opened my eyes. Coach TJ has really helped me with developing my game, emphasizing getting stronger, ball handling, getting to my spot to shoot my shot and getting the ball up when I shoot,” Preaster said. “He’s always been a great advocate for me as well as Coach Andrew. Coach Andrew and Coach Tj are like my pops when my pops is in New York. Coach Kaleb is my mentor.”
Basketball started in the 8th grade for Preaster with the Florida Force under coach Gustafson and coach Schwalbach’s command.
“Coach Andrew told me I can be a stud one day I just have to put in the work for it. That’s when I realized I can be really good and that it’s not too late,” he said. “I played basketball before but it was just for the fun of it.”
Preaster called his biggest strengths his ability to attack the rim and finish. He wants to continue to improve his defense, ball handling, shooting and scoring at all three levels.
I love this move for Preaster who will now be a feature piece for the Eagles. CFCA is a well-run unit under Gustafson and with Treacy running the point and the rest of the team making plays, it should be a sound year in Class 2A-District 5. Preaster should excel there.
