Top 250 Expo Prospect Report: Isaias Sanchez (2019)
University High has a fighter in this junior, Sanchez. He’s a shorter guard, but has the biggest heart when it comes to putting it all out on the floor. We spoke a bit after the Expo ended.
Q: What was your experience like in Daytona at the Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo?
My experience was great attending the Top 250 Expo. I learned new moves that I can add on to my arsenal and different ways to improve my game. I got a lot more out of the camp than I expected.
Q: Where did you first hear about it?
I heard about this from my father. He told me that this was a perfect opportunity to get my name out there so I took his advice.
Q: What was the best thing you learned?
The best thing I learned at the camp was to move without the ball. When everyone is standing around the perimeter, the defense has an easier job of defending you. However, moving around and setting screens makes it more difficult for them to guard, thus leading to easy baskets.
Q: What positives in your game grew? What negative in your game did you notice and try to fix?
I think that my finishing at the basket with a defender on me improved, tremendously. However, an aspect of my game I would like to improve on is my deep three-ball due to defenders not wanting to guard me, tight.
Q: Would you recommend the expo to your peers? How come?
I would highly recommend this to my peers. It not only improves your game, but it exposes you to colleges and gets your name out there.
Q: What is your role looking like this season?
My role as of right now for my junior year is unknown due to the fact my coach is still looking for pieces. However, I would like to be the starting point guard and be a floor general getting everyone involved.
Isaias has a dog mentality. Aggressive, never backs down. The first time I met him was over the summer. He’s already gotten better since then.
