Top 250 Expo Prospect Report: Edgar Ziegler (2019)
Carrollwood Day has a guy in Ziegler (right) that noticed some things in his game. It wasn’t just about the idea of skill. The junior wants to grow more than just his shooting ability. Check out how he felt about the Top 250 Expo.
Q: What was your experience like in Daytona at the Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo?
My experience at the Daytona Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo was a mixture of excitement and disappointment. I loved playing against good competition and I did have a fun time. But, there were countless minutes or games I would go without touching the ball, as well as the lack of defense by both teams.
Q: Where did you first hear about it?
I heard about Prep Hoops through my coach who told me that there was going to be college coaches and good competition at the showcase.
Q: What was the best thing you learned?
I mainly learned the importance of getting your grades right and doing good in school. Although basketball is a serious career, not everybody can make it and sustain themselves at such a high level. By taking education seriously, it gives you multiple paths to different schools, as well.
Q: What positives in your game grew? What negative in your game did you notice and try to fix?
A positive I found that grew was my sprinting back on defense. In games, I often people jog back. But when I saw the fast pace of the games, I met this level and also played fast. A negative I found in my game was showing too much negative body language. For example, if I was wide open and someone law took a dumb shot I would find myself sucking my teeth and throwing my hands up.
Q: Would you recommend the expo to your peers? How come?
I would recommend getting your teammates involved. I would recommend this because you’re giving everyone a opportunity to show college coaches what you got while also giving the other people on your team a fun and good time.
Q: What is your role looking like this season?
My role going into the high school season is a shooter and scorer. I have a wide arsenal on offense and strong defense as a result of work in the off-season.
Body language can make or break a player’s chances of playing at the next level. More than anything, it’s awesome when young players are mature enough to notice that within their own game. I definitely expect a great showing from this junior, this year.
