Recruiting Report: Jose Romero (2019)
2019 guard Jose Romero is now at East Bay after winning a state title with Oldsmar Christian.
The 6’0″, 160-pounder says he made the switch to East Bay because his mom lived far and it was hard to get him to school. He aims to lead his new team in points and do everything possible to win.
Romero says it was great to play with some of the top players in the state in Elijah Weaver (USC commit), DJ Mitchell, Michael Durr (USF commit), Akeil Shakoor and Stefon Fisher (Stephen F. Austin commit).
“We had an up and down year but we connected at the end and we won a state championship first in school history,” Romero told Prep Hoops Florida. “My game grew a lot and I got better playing against the competition that Oldsmar plays against. I got a lot better offensively and defensively and a lot more confidence.”
He says he wants to get his name out there more this fall, earn offers and win the Adidas Finale. He played this summer with 1Family, calling it the best experience traveling with the coaches and his “brothers.”
Romero started playing basketball at age 4. He first played football but then stopped to play basketball.
He pointed to his IQ, scoring and passing as his biggest strengths. Romero is aiming to improve his all-around defensive game.
No offers have come yet for the junior, but he’s generated interest from the likes of UCF, Stetson, Georgia Southern, North Florida and Northern Arizona.
Romero was a nice piece for a very deep Oldsmar Christian group. He heads over to an East Bay team that would love to feature him and use his scoring early and often in games. Expect the guard to put up solid numbers.
