Florida Top 250 Expo Prospect Report: Shakur Poteat (2020)
2020 Edgewater guard Shakur Poteat was one of 33 underclassmen and 86 total prospects in attendance at the Prep Hoops Florida Top 250 Expo on Saturday, Sept. 30th at DME Academy in Daytona Beach.
I caught up with Poteat to talk about his time at the expo.
Q: What was your experience like in Daytona at the Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo?
A: I enjoyed the ball handling drills because they were so advanced and working on the fundamentals. The coaches really knew basketball, so my experience was really good.
Q: Where did you first hear about it?
A: I heard about the Prep Hoops 250 Expo at the AAU Nationals at Disney.
Q: What was the best thing you learned?
A: I learned from the coach in charge how to make sure I give good energy on and off the court. Plus if I want to play on the next level, I have to be self-motivated to be great.
Q: What positive in your game grew? What negative in your game did you notice and try to fix?
A: My confidence in my ability to attack the basket has gotten better after the camp. I noticed that if I want to be the best all-around player for my team, I needed to be a better playmaker for my teammates.
Q: Would you recommend the expo to your peers? How come?
A: Yes, I would recommend Prep Hoops 250 Expo to any baller looking to get better. The expo gave me the chance to play against some of the top players in my class that pushed me to work harder.
Q: What is your role looking like this season?
A: I just transferred to Edgewater so right now, I am working hard to contribute to the program while making my school, my teammates and myself better.
I know how excited the Edgewater coaches are to have Poteat on their roster. At 5’11”, he is a mature shooter who is still figuring things out defensively. However, he has a keen ability as a ballhandler and he gets everyone involved. He should turn heads as a sophomore.
