Florida Top 250 Expo Prospect Report: Joshua Williams (2019)
2019 Choctawhatchee guard Joshua Williams was one of 53 upperclassmen and 86 total prospects in attendance at the Prep Hoops Florida Top 250 Expo on Saturday at DME Academy in Daytona Beach.
I sat down with Williams to talk about his time at the expo.
Q: What was your experience like in Daytona at the Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo?
A: The experience was great. I loved the competition. I love the coaches especially the head coach there. I learned a lot of useful tips from them.
Q: Where did you first hear about it?
A: I first heard about it from Twitter. I saw you guys post about it at the Big House last year and that was a fun experience.
Q: What was the best thing you learned?
A: The best thing I learned at the camp is probably the first step off a jab step. It’s such an effective move and I’ll always have the first step on the defender.
Q: What positive in your game grew? What negative in your game did you notice and try to fix?
A: The biggest positive in my game is my jump shot. I’ve worked hard on my jump shot to be where it’s at today. My negative is probably off-ball defense but I’ve gotten way better at it and I know how to play the passing lanes more effectively.
Q: Would you recommend the expo to your peers? How come?
A: Yes, I will because if you go out there and show out your going to get exposure and it’s a great learning experience.
Q: What is your role looking like this season?
A: I will be a pass-first point guard this year because I love getting my teammates involved. I’m a floor general and make everyone around me better.
Coaches kept talking about Joshua Williams at the expo. The junior point guard is a heads up defender and a really good ballhandler. He was one of the best court leaders in the older group. At 5’10”, Williams is undersized, but he has a non-stop motor that helps him stand out. He’ll lead the charge for an always contending Choctaw group this fall.
