Florida Top 250 Expo: Top 2020/21 Hoopers Under-Six-Feet-Tall
The Top 250 Expo saw some of the best underground talent in the state roll through, but seeing hoopers who never let their height dictate how hard they played was great to witness. These six set the standard on the floor. Take a look at the Expo’s top players under-six-feet.
Wilson Welkenbach – Seacrest Country Day School
One of the most patient ball-handlers present at the Expo, Wilson made heads and sneakers turn when on the floor. His handle is nice, can really knife the defense if you give him space to penetrate. At 5’3”, he has to get crafty with the finishing. Wilson can use the left hand, with ease. The three-ball is within his range. Just a freshman, so he has time to grow. Looking to see growth in all areas for him.
Victor Clark Jr. – North Florida Christian School
This 5’7” sophomore guard possesses a really smooth jumper. Definitely a guy that can be counted on for a quality look via midrange. Doesn’t take a lot of forced, rushed shots. Vic’s form is solid, all-around. If he uses the pump-fake, he’s really going to sell it. His effort on the floor was noticed, quickly.
Brian Miller – East River High School
One of the best passers I saw all day, regardless of class. This sophomore wants to develop his sense of vision. You can see it in the way he plays. Head stayed up, his eyes always darting across the court to see if he can find a cutter. His 5’8” frame doesn’t stop him from competing for rebounds. He holds no fear in his game. Shows great poise.
Jonathan Saenz – Park Vista Community High School
This 5’11” sophomore was great to watch when he defended in the half-court. He aims to bottle you up. Saenz’s transition D was on point, as well. I remember a chase-down block he served to the guy above Saenz’s name. He swipes for the ball, creates steals. He can finish the reverse lay-in if he meets traffic at the rim.
Jaden Golston – Montverde Academy
Just a 5’10” freshman whose shooting range is longer than his height. He can absolutely hit it from deep, especially from the left-wing area. One simple thing I REALLY like about him: Golston talks on defense—a luxury, today. Definitely excited to see his progression over the next four years.
Cole Duncan – Winter Springs High School
Duncan is probably a shade under 6’0”, so he makes this cut. Although, his shooting skill was definitely a cut above the rest. Midrange, he likes to settle around the elbow area. He can give you that 16-foot jumper with ease. Duncan can also stroke the three-ball. His pull-up off-the-dribble is spot-on. This sophomore has a lot of promise!
