Recruiting Report: Floyd Rideau Jr. (2019)
Long and tough guards are fun to watch.
2019 Holy Trinity guard Floyd Rideau Jr. fits the bill for that category. The 6’3″, 155-pounder spent his freshman season at Frostproof before playing last year at Melbourne. He’s now at Holy Trinity after transferring over earlier this summer.
He has one offer on his plate from Eastern Florida State College. Rideau Jr. has also generated interest from UCF, USF, Georgia Tech, Siena, Liberty, Alcorn State and California State.
Rideau Jr. called Holy Trinity a better opportunity for his game to grow. He says he learned to stay mentally focused and play every game like it is his last one as a sophomore.
As for his role at his new school, he says it will be to control the flow of the game, create open shots for teammates and himself.
This summer, Rideau Jr. debuted with South Florida Elite. He called the experience priceless.
“The coaching staff didn’t care for any excuses they just wanted results, we practice hard and play harder. They were more concerned about me looking good as opposed to me making them look good,” he said. “They also didn’t care about how good you are you had to earn everything you get.
Playing for an NBA God like Kenny Anderson showed me that it takes more than talent and athleticism to get to the next level.”
In terms of his biggest strengths, Rideau Jr. pointed to his length, athleticism and IQ.
“I take pride in playing on both ends of the court and the ability to see the play before it happens,” he said. “Most players only focus on playing on the offensive end but I take pride in shutting down a great player.”
He plans to be more aggressive on offense and create more off the bounce.
A basketball player since age 3, Rideau Jr. is a natural hard worker. He does plenty that doesn’t show up in a box score. He’s quietly a very sound addition to an already legitimate Holy Trinity program. Look for him to develop further in his junior campaign.
