Recruiting Report: Ben Tal (2018)
2018 guard Ben Tal will be wrapping up his high school career at West Oaks Academy.
The 6’1″, 175-pounder averaged 22.1 PPG for Hebrew Academy this past season. He currently has no offers but has drawn interest from Stetson, Penn State, Barry and Bethune Cookman.
Tal broke down his decision to transfer for his senior season.
“I transferred to West Oaks from Hebrew Academy because I wanted to play at the highest level for high school basketball and I’m blessed that coach [Kenny] Gillion gave me an opportunity to come and play for his school,” Tal told Prep Hoops Florida. “Another reason I transferred to West Oaks is for exposure and playing against the best competition I can possibly play against.”
As for his junior campaign that is already in the books, Tal said it was solid all around.
“I did everything for my team, I scored points, I got boards and got my team involved,” he said. “I learned a lot this season like playing smarter against defenses and raising my shooting efficiency.”
This summer he played AAU ball for both South Florida Elite and the Running Rebels. Tal says he learned to play calm and collective and to always play your hardest on every possession.
Starting his basketball career at age 6, he pointed to his ball handling, change of speed, finishing ability around the rim and being able to facilitate a team as his biggest strengths. He wants to improve his consistency on 3-point shooting.
For now, Tal sits with no offers, but that will change. The move to West Oaks will put him around some of the top talents in the state as Gillion’s group plays a tough schedule around the country. Look for Tal to excel at his new stomping grounds this season.
He’s a very savvy point guard with a ton of leadership and experience behind him.
