Prospect Spotlight: Zac Bulgin (2018)
At 6’2, Zac Bulgin is a perfect example of a combo guard. He can shoot the ball with the best in the state, but can also facilitate and offense and get his team mates shots. Bulgin may not have the height of some combo guards but he makes up for it in hustle and his defense.
Bulgin got off to a quick start during his junior season, where he averaged about 18 points a game. Unfortunately this season, he had to deal with 2 ankle sprains this season. His scoring numbers would have most likely been higher is it weren’t for those sprains. However, he went on to average 11 points and led his team to a 4th place finish at the chiles center; the first basketball state tournament trophy in his schools history!
This season, Bulgin and Greeley are looking for more than fourth. “I think last year we surprised people by getting fourth. But this season, it’s our goal to go into every game with the mentality that we can play with anyone who walks through the door. We have the superstar in Greeley, and young guys who can step up into their role. But most of all our team chemistry is like no other team. We all play for each other.” His goal for this season is to finish first team all GVC and to bring home the first state championship in west salem school history. Bulgin says that since a kid his dad always taught him that when you fall in love with the work that it takes to become great, then that’s when you will be great. He really took that to heart and says that he loves being alone in the gym just working on his game.
Zac played AAU the last two seasons for clutch players out of Beaverton. He said that he really enjoyed that time getting to play with guys who he normally plays against, and getting to play some of the best teams and players in the country. He has always wanted to play basketball in college, and is receiving strong D-3 interest; but this guy is a sleeper at the D-2 level. Wouldn’t be surprised to see more coaches taking a look at this guard.
