Prospect Spotlight: Ben Swolsky (2018)
Ben Swolsky is a stand-out wing at St. Patrick’s High School in Maysville, KY. As a junior last season, Swolsky averaged 20.8 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. He also shot 47% from the field (38% from 3-point range). “My high school season last year went well. Unfortunately I broke my wrist early in the season and missed a portion of the middle part, but I was able to return for the end of the season,” said Swolsky.
Individually, Swolsky was able to expand his game from inside out, while improving his shooting and ball handling. “I was able to bring the ball up the court more and attack from the wing, something I’ll need to develop for the next level.”
Unfortunately for Swolsky, during a summer league game he tore his ACL and had to undergo surgery. “My personal goal is to be back by January or February. In the meantime I am working on my ball handling and strength as my recovery allows. My goal is to work hard during this recovery time and at least be back by districts.”
Summer ball season was going extremely well for Swolsky before the injury. “I felt like I was beginning to fill more of a guard role but was also able to work in the post when needed. I felt like my defense had also improved greatly.” During the off-season Swolsky has mostly been working on his strength. “I’ve been trying to get as much muscle on as I can until I can get cleared to play.”
In describing his game, Ben had this to say – “I think I’m more of a stretch 3 type player. I can score the ball just about any way. I prefer to play on the wing and attack the rim but can also knock down the 3 when needed. I can also post up and work down low. My length really helps me on defense.”
Swolsky gets it done in the classroom, as well. He currently holds a 3.8 GPA and scored a 27 on his ACT. “In looking for a college program, I’m looking for a team that plays as a family. I’m a team player so being close to my teammates and getting along with them is important. I’m looking for a college where I would be able to play and make an impact early in my college career. I’m also looking for a school that would offer the most scholarship money.”
Swolsky currently holds offers from D-III schools Ohio Wesleyan University, Ohio Northern University, and Mount St. Joseph University.
