Best of the Best: Scorers
Next up in our Best of the Best series, we look at the best scorers in the city of Cincinnati. As Bill Russell told Uncle Drew, “This game has always been, and always will be about buckets.” And the young men on this list can do exactly that, get buckets. As a matter of fact, while researching for this article Cincinnati has so many scorers I decided to make this a two-part article. So here is part one of the Best of the Best scorers in Cincinnati.
Darius Bazley/ Princeton High School (2018)
One of the many reasons for this young man’s rise up the recruiting boards this summer is because of the improvement in his offensive game. The Syracuse commit showed a major improvement in his shooting, showing extended range and a much smoother shooting stroke. Combine that with his guard like handle, athleticism and his ability to finish with both hands around the rim Bazley is the toughest cover in the country.
Dominic “DJ” Brewton/ Hughes High School (2018)
This young man has the ability to get buckets in bunches while being able to score from all three levels on the court. Also blessed with very good athleticism, Brewton can finish over and around smaller and bigger defenders while also being able to finish with both hands around the rim. Will be an important factor for the Big Red this season with the graduation of Corry Long. Currently ranked 56th in the state, Brewton holds an offer from D-II Northwood University (MI) and has interest from a host of other schools.
Jarett Cox/ Lakota East High School (2018)
In a conference full of scorers, it was Cox who lead the Greater Miami Conference averaging 18.4ppg last season. Another scorer on this list who can get buckets from all three levels while having the athleticism to finish at the rim. While a very good shooter off one and two dribbles, the Fairmont State commit will be expected to carry even more of an offensive load with the departure of Evan Kuhlman to Evansville.
Jeremiah Davenport/ Archbishop Moeller High School (2018)
Standing 6’5, Davenport is one of the tougher covers in the state due to his ability to put the ball on the floor while possessing a nice jump shot from 15-17ft. You put a bigger defender on him and Jeremiah can put the ball on the floor and get to the rim. Smaller defender and he can raise up and shoot over the defender. A very aggressive player who is not afraid to draw contact, Davenport is also a very good offensive rebounder. Currently ranked 27th in his class, the senior wing holds offers from Tennessee Tech and Presbyterian College while having interest from a host of other D-I programs.
Terry Durham/ Woodward High School (2018)
Durham is another player who will be a match-up nightmare this season for coaches. Already known for doing damage in the paint, the lefty’s jump shot got better and better as the season went in. If his jumper continues to improve with his combination of strength and athleticism, Terry will be in line for a huge, huge senior season. The Bulldog forward currently holds an offer from D-II Central State University (OH) and is the 88th ranked player in the class of 2018.
