Zimife Nwokeji talks upcoming junior season, offers and more
Zimife Nwokeji is hard to miss when he steps on the floor.
At 6’7″, 200 lbs., the 2019 Maclay forward is currently ranked No. 12 in our junior class rankings. His length and shooting ability have opened the eyes of many college coaches across the country.
Nwokeji currently has offers from FGCU, FSU, St. John’s, Virginia Tech, Missouri, UNF, James Madison and FIU.
He also has interest from Notre Dame, Troy, Louisville, UF, USF, UCF, Tulsa, Dayton, Miami, Princeton and Butler.
To be honest, he’ll have his pick of the litter by the time high school is over. With eight offers on his table and interest from a slew of high-Division I programs, Nwokeji can focus on being a junior in high school.
Here’s what he said he learned during his sophomore season and the player he plans to become in 2017.
“I learned to simplify my game and be consistent. Also, slowing my game down so that I can make good decisions,” Nwokeji told Prep Hoops Florida. “This year at Maclay I think I’ll have a big leadership role. I’m going to be the person to set the tone for the team on both ends of the court.”
Nwokeji spent his second summer with 1Family. He says he focused on rebounding, finishing in the paint and knocking down the open shot during travel season.
Starting at age 11, he pointed to his shooting and rebounding as his biggest strengths. He wants to improve his awareness, ball handling and his shot off the dribble.
Nwokeji certainly makes it look simple out on the floor. A lot of tall kids can never figure out how to use their length to their advantage, but he has done just that rather quickly. Expect his offer sheet to double by the end of this season. He is a hot commodity in the state of Florida and rightfully so. His upside is big.
