Recruiting Report: Kmani Doughty (2019)
At 6’6″, 183 lbs., Kmani Doughty is a highly sought after athlete right now.
The 2019 forward has been training hard all summer with Nike Team Florida. He made the decision to transfer from Lake Minneola to Florida Prep for his junior season. After moving down from New York last August, he’s still adjusting to life in Florida.
Doughty has one offer on his table from Stetson currently.
He also has a slew of interest from the likes of Arkansas State, FGCU, St. John’s, College of Charleston, UCF, Appalachian State, Tulane, Tulsa, FAU, Louisiana Lafayette, Presbyterian, Kent State, Syracuse, UT Martin, UT Chattanooga, George Washington, Georgia State, USC Upstate, UMass, Arkansas Little Rock, Old Dominion and USF.
“This past season was a learning experience me,” Doughty told Prep Hoops Florida. “My team played well this season but we fell short in regionals against Ocoee high school. I learned a lot about being a leader and being a team player. Even though I was the only sophomore on varsity I was held to high expectations to lead the team.”
He pointed to his defense as something that grew the most during his sophomore season.
“It changed me by being more aggressive and taking pride,” he said. “My role next year at Florida Prep is to become a defensive anchor, knock down shooter and an aggressive scorer.”
Doughty joined Nike Team Florida in April. He called his experience great as he got the “right amount of exposure and was able to travel around the country to play other great teams.”
He started playing basketball at age 8. He pointed to his jump shooting and ability to attack the rim as his biggest strengths.
Doughty plans to work on his perimeter defense and his lateral movement on defense.
When you watch Doughty play, you can see at first glance what he can be. He’s still rather new to the Florida basketball scene, but I’m sure he grew up quickly in New York playing against some tough minded guys. Florida Prep is a great spot for him to do his thing. The program allows their guys to succeed at a high level.
