Prospect Spotlight: Izrael Williams (2017)
Izrael Williams is a crafty, no nonsense point guard who earns the respect of his opposition every time on the floor.
When we caught up with Izrael a few things stand out, his maturity level is way beyond his years, a player who doesn’t get rattled by physical play but instead welcomes it, he truly lives by the code that as an undersized guard you have to be the toughest player on the court. When watching Williams you can’t help but be impressed with his defense as he picks up the opponent’s ball handler full court, he puts pressure on them and rattles them with his physical play. Another thing that stands out is Izrael’s speed, after luring the defender to return the favor and pick him up full court, Williams will burst past him and find an open teammate after luring the defense in, or taking it to the rim himself.
Williams, who played his high school ball for Cypress Creek in Orlando and his travel ball season for MTE Diamonds turned some heads with his play late in the July period, after an impressive showing at the Nike Peach Invitational in Georgia, Izrael followed that up with a string of dominating games at the Orlando Hoops Festival. Izrael received camp and school invites and is preparing to capitalize on the momentum he has created in his push to find the right fit at the next level.
The school who decides to take a chance on this diamond in the rough will be lucky to acquire his services. They will be getting a young man who is not only a good basketball player but a terrific human being, Williams who’s maturity level extends off the court while taking care of his younger siblings is a kid who I would bet on and would be a great addition to a college program. I look forward to seeing what’s next on his journey.
