Prospect Spotlight: Darin Green (2019)
If you’re looking for someone who isn’t afraid to defend, Wharton’s Darian Green is perfect for the occasion.
Green isn’t going to wait of you to get comfortable in your offense at the guard spot. No, he’s going to D you up at half-court, and apply pressure. At the Raptors Elite ID4 Invitational, the CP25 AAU guard didn’t hesitate to put the clamps down on his counterparts. He was also seen forcing many turnovers off passes trying to enter the post.
While he’s more than solid in that area, he can get to the rack and offer double-digit scoring nights, as well. Green said that last year, he started working his pump-fake and pull-up jumper game on a more consistent basis. This year, he’s finally starting to see dividends.
Green is fueled by a loss that still haunts: a 10-point loss to Bartow in the Class 8A regional quarterfinals. He said a key to getting further than last year resides in the ability of EVERYONE stepping up, doing better at screening the ball, of all things.
At the moment, he’s been picking up some interest from some in-state schools such as Florida Gulf Coast University and University of Central Florida. Although, Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas has looked his way.
The top three things Green is looking at in a program is system style, the caliber and personality of the players and staff, and if they play with the right goals in mind. Should he find that in a college, he already has an idea of what it’ll feel like to finally make that commitment.
“It’s going to be amazing,” Green said. Like an, ‘It’s finally here,’ moment. I’ve been waiting for this.”
