Prospect Spotlight: Dakota Rivers (2019)
Windermere rising junior Dakota Rivers is the epitome of a team player, in every sense of the phrase.
As a member of CP25 AAU at the Raptors Elite ID4 Invitational, Rivers was seen being a long-armed rim protector on defense, swatting away anything coming close to the rim. But he’s also one who can throw it down in traffic on offense. Rivers dons great height, but he sprints the floor with the best of them on the fastbreak. Rivers is aiming to don the skill set of a slasher on offense, one day.
Rivers loves everything involving the idea of “team”. He always wants to play WITH the team and not end up suffering from any selfish acts which could hurt it. No matter who the team leader is, Rivers will constantly be a motivator.
“I want to be a leader. But if I can’t be a leader, I want to be a supporter for the team. I want it to go far,” Rivers said.
The biggest points on his list of traits for a good college program include having a coaching staff that trusts him, his word and his talent, immediately. Next, finding a group of players that do the same. Rivers will give everything and then some should he come across a program that exudes all of this.
The summer has been a time where Rivers has worked on every area of his game that he can. With two years left to prove himself, we definitely haven’t seen the best that’s yet to come.
