Senior Splash: Summer League 2018 Standouts Pt. 1/3
The summer league months are often a time to try new ideas out and get familiar with your teammates. But for these seniors, it’s the beginning of their last ride. Check out some of the Class of 2018 hoopers who’ve been assets to their team, lately.
William Banks IV: P.K. Yonge Research School
Banks was one of my favorite players to watch last year because of how he aims to dominate the paint. I expect next season to be no different. Banks can be relentless on the rebounding glass and can deflate defenses by getting some quality putbacks. He can hit the 10-13 foot jumper, or post-up and hit you with a jump-hook. P.K. has the same team, minus one senior who graduated this past May. With Banks doing work, you may see another Regional Final run out of him and the Blue Wave.
Noah Richardson: Eastside High School
He has a limber frame that knows how to get to the cup. One of the scrappiest players on his squad, Noah is a guy who aims to lead by example. On a few summer nights, I’ve caught him diving for loose balls and making the extra hustle play for the good of the team. Noah’s a solid mid-range scorer, but he’s more noticeable on the rebounding glass.
Jacquise Brown: Columbia High School
Brown is a bruiser. A 6’2” bruiser that can make things tough for players aiming to snag a rebound over him. Just a strong, physical guy that should be an anchor on defense for the Tigers, this season. Off missed free throws, I haven’t seen a guy pursue the ball the way he does. It’s intense to watch.
Mike Evans: North Marion High School
By far one of the most talented offensive players I’ve seen in this summer league. He can finish off-the-catch in the deep post, or drive the lane and hit you with a euro-step. On defense, he has great presence in the post, doesn’t get knocked around. Boxes out with the best of them. Evans’ game is one to watch for in 2018.
