Recruiting Report: Evan Spiller (2018)
Lakewood Ranch has been a very tough team the past two seasons. The Mustangs reached the Class 8A state semifinal before losing to eventual state champion Sickles. The year before that, Lakewood Ranch lost in the region finals.
2018 guard Evan Spiller played an integral role on both those teams. He called his junior season an incredible one overall.
“I realized that there are not many programs like us where everybody contributes in their own way,” Spiller told Prep Hoops Florida. “I learned that when you’re on top you can’t let up and to hold myself accountable. My game defensively grew the most being able to defend 1-4. Next season, I’ll play point guard and really have to focus on the leadership part.
No offers have come yet for the 6’3”, 175-pounder but he’s drawn interest from Mercer, Florida Southern, Eckerd, Nova Southeastern, Catholic and North Central.
Spiller has been with CBA United for two years and has played with a majority of the guys since 6th grade. He says he’s focused on becoming a better scorer at the three levels, getting stronger and more explosive.
He remembers scoring his first points at age 1, but it was in 3rd grade when Spiller first played on a team.
In terms of his strength, he pointed to his decision making, passing, mid-range shooting, defense and ability to handle pressure. Spiller is aiming to improve his consistency, aggressiveness and 3-point shooting.
Lakewood Ranch is a deep group and I think this is the year where Spiller has full control of the offense. If he can add 3-pointers to his strengths, then he’ll be recruited heavily this season. He will be offered before the year ends. Spiller is a reliable 2018 guard.
