Prospect Spotlight: Mamush Galloway (2020)
Rising Trinity Prep sophomore Mamush Galloway makes the right decisions when the ball is in his hands.
He’s not a guard that runs the offense like a point, would. But if the ball is passed to him, believe he’ll aim to create the best option for the team. Galloway has awesome footwork in the post once he’s driven it through the lane. He’s not going to make a bad pass and turn it over trying to search for an open man. Every move he makes in that area is purposeful.
If there are plays that somehow get busted, Galloway does a great job of just sticking with it. He battles for loose balls, makes the extra jump in an attempt to snag a rebound. At the Raptors Elite ID4 Invitational, his effort in trying to create second-chance opportunities was great to watch.
Galloway said that it was his first time playing with the Raptors Sawyer AAU squad, that weekend. His reasoning behind it is because he wanted to show his Trinity teammates that he’s capable of playing with other guys who aren’t whom he’s use to, yet can still win. This was a time where his Trinity team could see what he’s capable of, going forth.
As far as his offseason development goes, he’s been working on doing a lot of footwork drills to improve balance and stability. For his trinity team to make a splash, Galloway said the post play will have to elevate over the course of the season. Everyone’s sense of work ethic needs to rise. He had a close teammate in Jason West who is no longer there, but West would pick Galloway up for workouts every morning, last season.
Now that a leader like that is gone, this may be the time for Galloway to start developing his sense of leadership, even though he’s only a sophomore. Ultimately, look for Galloway to have a presence on his Trinity squad come late-fall.
