Prospect Spotlight: Dylan Clinger (2018)
Legacy Charter rising senior Dylan Clinger is the definition of “all-heart”.
He wasn’t asked to be a main scorer for his Heart & Hustle AAU squad at the Raptors Elite ID4 Invitational earlier this month. But, the way he hustles on both sides of the ball is something you want to see as a coach.
Clinger is pesky on defense. The type of guy to always keep a hand on his man and never let him out of sight. He likes to pay close attention to the eyes of the ball-handler in an attempt to jump the passing gaps. More often than not, Clinger will end up with the steal. On offense, he’s not afraid to take the rock off the pick-and-roll, drive through the paint, and touch it off the glass in traffic.
He voiced some areas of where he wants to improve. His jumper isn’t quite where he desires, yet. Clinger has been working on his own to become more consistent in that area. As a guard, Clinger is aiming to grow into a better ball-handler, as well as a defensive specialist. That’s all as far as physical skill is concerned.
On the mental side, it’s all about growing more into being a voice to the younger guys so that they may have a positive presence in the locker room and on the floor. It ties into what he said it will take to make it to Lakeland in March.
Teamwork.
Clinger feels that if the team’s hustle stays strong, and that every player on the roster is committed to working hard, they can compete with whomever comes in their way.
