Prospect Spotlight: Brian Brooks Jr. (2019)
Brian Brooks Jr. is one of the most humble kids you could have a basketball conversation with.
He’s not looking for the glory. He’s just worried about staying focused, staying committed, to the goals of the team—whatever those may be. It’s not about self with Brian. It’s about the bigger picture.
“I just want to be able to play WITH the team. One man cant do it by themselves,” Brian said.
During a his best game at the Raptors Elite ID4 Invitational, Brian notched 14 of his 23 points in the first half. He can splash the three-point shot. He can drive the ball left or right to the hoop. In-transition, Brian can stop on a dime at the elbow and drain it from midrange.
If you need him to include his teammates, he’s a great passer out-of-the-lane once he penetrates. Other shooters on the wing would love his unselfishness.
The biggest area of his game he’s been working on is the ball-handling spot. It’s not like he can’t handle the rock, but being a better dribbler, having more control of the ball, will bode him well in the future when other quick-handed guards will aim to fluster him.
Other than this, Brian’s looking to become more of a leader for his squad as he steps into an upperclassman position. With the type of mindset he already has, it shouldn’t take long, at all.
